A Q and A with...

Last updated : 06 May 2005 By Smallsy
This week sees the final game of the season, as the Bees have already qualified for the playoffs there is bound to be just a touch of a party atmosphere at Griffin Park as 2nd place Hull City come to town.

Let's see what Hull City supporter Andy Beill had to say about saturday's game...

1. Tell us a bit about yourself; Name, age, how long a fan of your club etc...

I'm Andy Beill, 19, a life-long fan and season ticket-holder for the
last 10 years.

2. What was the first football match you went to and what was the score?

First match was a City game at Boothferry Park but I was only about 3
years old so can't remember who it was against. Earliest match I can
remember was a 5-1 win against Exeter in the 1993/94 season.

3. What is the best and worst match you have attended?

Our 4-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday earlier this season was one of
the best games I've been to. There was a crowd of around 30,000,
including a reported 8,000 Tigers supporters who were singing
throughout the match, so the atmosphere inside Hillsborough was
fantastic. The players on the pitch matched the superb support by
showing great character and running out clear winners. Nick Barmby's
second goal will also be talked about for a long time; it showed his
Premiership pedigree.

Worst game was the defeat at Doncaster Rovers in April 1998. The team
bottom of the Football League without a win in nine games ended that
run with a late 1-0 win against City.

4. Have you over achieved, under achieved or achieved on your goals
from the start of the season?

I don't think many predicted we'd win automatic promotion in our first
season in this league, although it was a definite possibility so I
wouldn't say it's an over achievement.

5. Where do you think Brentford will finish?

I'd be surprised if you won the play-offs, although anything is possible there.

6. How do you think you will get on next season?

It depends on who we buy. We have the resources to put together a top
half of the table team, but without making the right signings I can't
see us doing any better than struggling to reach mid-table.

7. Who is the player Brentford should watch out for when we play you?

Stuart Elliott gets the headlines for his goals and Nick Barmby's been
a star too, but Leon Cort's earned a lot of praise with fans for his
solid performances at the back.

8. Who's the Brentford player you think you should watch out for?

If you've got decent wingers we may struggle as the full backs Peter
Taylor's been selecting aren't the best.

9. What's your team like? Strong areas/players, weak areas/players,
manager + backroom staff etc...

Our team has under-performed as a whole the last couple of weeks since
promotion was secured. Our right wingers are all injured and right
back has been a problem area for a long time. We lack a natural
goalscorer up front, with most goals coming from our left winger
Elliott. Central midfield is also an area we need to strengthen before
entering the Championship, while our goalkeeper seems to be struggling
with confidence. Other than that, we're the second best team in the
division!

10. Make a prediction for when Brentford play you

An easy Brentford win if the last few weeks are anything to go by, but
hopefully there'll be some personnel changes and they'll be better
motivated to sign off the season with a good result.

Thanks again to Andy for completing the Brentford-mad Q and A for us, look out for special Q and A's featuring on this site during the playoffs.
