Despite the defeat on friday night, Martin Allen can still be pleased with his weeks work. Appearing on football focus yesterday he stated his disapintment that they didnt get more from the trip to Swansea.

Preparing his team for the Gillingham game on Tuesday he will have been pleased at 5pm yesterday, despite not looking at the table obviously, with the fact that Southend lost and all his other opponents struggled to get victories or draws, while the mid week opponents were beaten 6-0 by Bristol City ahead of their home game against the travelling Bees.

However despite indifferent form recently it appears to be the goalscorers at the club presenting the problem to supports who feel that the fact that the goals drying up my represent a worrying factor for the ten games left to go in the season.

After drawing blanks against Doncaster and Port Vale recently Allen came out to defend Owusu who has been recieving paticular stick from supports recently,

"Lloyd has made a fantastic contribution to the team throughout the season, although he has scored only ten goals which is not as many as i'd have liked."

With the departue of DJ Campbell to Birmingham it seems as though the club is finally suffering from a lack of pace which DJ's exit has brought however Allen did say,

"Owusu has played really well recently he's been a real handful"

Defending all his strikers he said,

"It's a team effort to score goals and to prevent them. So if we're not scoring enough then it's not something which can simply be labelled on the strikers."
