Brentford-Mad's Review of the Season - October

As the leaves started to fall from the trees and the weather started to become progressively worse it was time to see if Brentford could extend the great run of form they were currently enjoying.

After finishing September in fourth place it was important that Allen's men continued to play well, after being knocked out of the League Cup and also the LDV vans trophy they could fully concentrate on the League and had no excuses for other distractions.

We started the month with a 2-0 victory over Oldham courtesy of goals from Rankin and Burton, an impressive win which sent us up to 2nd place.

We then battled for two 0-0 draws away from home at Barnsley and the MK Dons, a good run of results gave the side much confidence and much needed points ahead of some difficult games towards the end of the month.

Next up came a tough game against Hartlepool who were also doing very well in the league, the squad and team finally seemed to be coming into a great run of form and it was important that we kept winning our home games to stay up with the leaders, the team duely obliged and the 'Monkey Hangers' were dispatched 2-1 in front of a great crowd at Griffin Park to climb up to second place.

Blackpool were next to visit Griffin Park and brought Brentford back down to earth, even though the oppertunity to go top was placed as a carrot in front of the club, a hungry Blackpool team turned up and won convincingly 3-0.

For our final game of the month we visited Prenton Park to face 2nd placed Tranmere and in a tough game which we deserved a draw from we were beaten 1-0 by the Merseyside team as we slipped to 6th place.

Given the pundits predictions from the start of the season everything was going well but the players were disapointed with their away form as a pose to the great form we were invariably were pulling ot at Griffin Park, the games against Hartlepool and Tranmere were a yard stick as to how well the club could do this season and they proved with two good performances that they could definetely hold their own in this division against any club.

On to November where we the FA Cup began and we had some tough league battles ahead of us.
