FA Cup Preview - Vs Charlton: 17th Feb

Last updated : 17 February 2006 By Smallsy
Brentford Vs Charlton at the Valley is set to be one of the most intreguing matches played this season. With FA Cup pedigree stating both sides fairly equally but with the Addicks as the Premiership side they start as favourites, but Bees fans will be hoping that the ultimate leveller can help their side to at least a draw but hopefully a win.

Team News - Brentford
After coming on as a late sub against Southend, Brentford striker Lloyd Owusu has picked up a back strain. Paul Brooker may also be missing with a knock he picked up against Walsall.

Team News - Charlton
The home side are set to welcome back several players including Matt Hollan, Dennis Rommedahl, Chris Perry and Jonathan Fortune.

Recent Form
The Bees come in on top of their game with recent victories over Bristol, Southend and Sunderland in the FA Cup. Martin Allen's side have been playing well recently and will look to use their League form as a springboard in this game.

Charlton as in the last few months have been struggling for consistency. They were defeated 3-2 by Manchester City last weekend but put in a good late effort. The week previous they defeated European Champions Liverpool but put in poor showings against Tottenham and West Brom in other recent League fixtures.

Key player - Brentford

Michael Turner: If Brentford are to win this game then their defending against the pacey attacks of the Valley team will have to be spot on. If he can be as commanding as his height and ability dictate then the chances of an away result are high, however if he loses concentration or is absorbed in the moment then the Bees may be in for a tough afternoon.

Key Player - Charlton
Alexei Smertin: The on loan Chelsea players presence in the midfield of the Prem club has been excellent this season. Working well with Danny murphy before he left for Spurs he helps break up attacks but also helps start them. As the home team Charlton will be expected to make most of the chances therefore his play in building attacks will be crucial.

Keys to victory - Brentford
Defense
Holding their nerve
Making the best of their chances

Keys to victory - Charlton
Helping the game to keep tempo
Using their wide men
Making sure their quality shows

Other facts or omens - Charlton defender Herman Hreidarsson used to play for the Bees so don't be suprised if he pops up to score from a corner. Both clubs have staff who's experiences including chairman of the BBC, Greg Dyke and Michael Grade.

Match Prediction - Brentford will give it a go but just as with Leyton Orient in the last round, the home side will be two strong. Expect the game to be close but Charlton striker Darren Bent to score the winner in a 2-1 victory.
