League One Preview: Brentford Vs Blackpool: 17th April

Last updated : 16 April 2006 By Smallsy
After an unconvincing draw away from home against Rotherham over the weekend, Brentford will be looking to get back on track with three much needed points against a Blackpool side who effectively made themselves safe with a win in Saturday's fixtures.

With the promotion chase alight at the top of League One it is important fo Bees to gain an equal or improved result on Colchester, Huddersfield and Swansea who all failed to capitalise on the bees draw at Millmoor. Only four games left in the season means that Brentford need to match the results of the sides in and around them to claim an automatic promotion place to the Championship.

Promotion-chasing Brentford boss Martin Allen should keep faith with the same side that drew with Rotherham. On-loan midfielder Darren Pratley is set to keep his place but Kevin O'Connor (ankle) and Oli Skulason (knee) are sidelined.

Blackpool's Keith Lasley (leg) and John Murphy (hamstring) should return after they failed fitness tests on Saturday. Ian Morris (shin) and Sam Stockley (calf) were both substitutes against the Swans and should keep their places.

Recent Form
To say the bees are lying in second place, their recent form has not been that of a top placed team. Their home record this year is better than most losing only five games and winning ten, but often finding it difficult to break down opponents who defend deep with defensive tactic.

The Bees have drawn their last three games in a row and have failed to score enough goals in recent matches fo see off opponents. They will be looking for a big game from all their stars and looking to avenge two poor results which they gained against 'the Tangerines' last season.

Blackpool enjoyed a rousing 1-0 win over Swansea on Saturday and look to have rescued themselves from relegation trouble. Three points at Griffin Park will secure their status as a League One club but a poor set of results could mean they are thrown right back into the mix.

Indifferent form over the last six games has seen them struggle to gain momentum and away from home they have also failed to score goals which could have aided their position.

Key Player
Jay Tabb - Brentford often pin their hopes on the young Irishman's creativity and they will need his ability to break through a stern Blackpool defense. Using his pace and his runs from deep he will be looking to not only make chances for the bees strikeforce but hopefully add to his scoring record which the manager has asked him to improve on this year.

Peter Clarke - A player with all the defensive qualities needed at this level Clarke will need to be a commanding force in Monday's game. Beginning his career at Everton he will have to use his brief experience and physicality to battle the big bruising strikeforce of Brentford who will be looking to press on as much as possible.

Match Prediction
With Blackpool looking to add a point to their tally to be safe from relegation this season, Brentford will find it tough to break down the two banks of four which they may play with. Blackpool buyant from beating Swansea on Saturday will be tested to the full and it may take a single goal from a bees striker to win the game.
