TERRY LOOKS AHEAD

As he pondered his team selection for tomorrow night's friendly, Terry Butcher brought us up to date with the team news.

"First and foremost we were particularly saddened to hear that Kevin O'Connor's mother passed away over the weekend having finally succumbed to a long battle with illness. On behalf of the Club I would like to extend to Kevin and his family our deepest condolences. He will obviously be missing from the next few games as he sorts things out and takes the time to readjust.

On the injury front Charlie Ide is extremely doubtful for tomorrow's match as he is suffering with a hip injury. Definitely out is Craig Pead although he is doing well and making good progress. But invariably with this sort of injury you can make rapid progress while the final part of the healing tends to be slower.

Better news re Glenn Poole who has yet to play in a pre season friendly as he will be back in training before the end of the week.

Lee Thorpe and Alan Connell have both recovered from knocks which have prevented them from taking part in the last couple of friendlies.

There will be a couple of triallists who will be given a run out against Reading although Lee Canoville who impressed during his trial period with us has today signed for Notts County. We wish Lee, who already has a house in Nottingham, well as he joins a club with a larger budget than ourselves.

Lastly we look forward to welcoming Steve Coppell back to Griffin Park. Steve is a lovely guy who has done exceptionally well for Reading. We expect them to bring a strong squad for the match which will certainly make for a stern test for our lads."
