Brentford continued their season with the game against the bottom side Swindon. Swindon have been poor this season and were 6 points adrift at the start of the game. Brentford looked to improve on their decent start to the season.

The first ten minutes were a cagey affair which was very uninspiring. Unfortunately for Steve Jenkins he had to come off with an injury. Rory Fallon had the first shot of the match which was saved by Stuart Nelson. Colin Heath then had the second shot of the match from 20 yards which was easily dealt with by Stuart Nelson.

Brentford’s first shot came from Jay Tabb which was dealt with by Tom Heaton. Jay Tabb then brought out a very good save from Tom Heaton forcing him to tip over his free kick. Gareth Whalley forced Kevin O’Connor to make a decent block which went out for a corner.

Despite very limited goal-mouth action the game was a very tense affair. The teams went in at half time with the score deadlocked at 0-0.

After half-time the game became more flowing. Brentford forced Swindon back but Sam Sodje headed over the bar from the resulting corner kick. Sam Sodje then had another shot blocked by Colin Heath and from the corner Owusu was adjudged to have been offside. Paul Brooker then brought out a wonderful save from Tom Heaton as the ball had taken a deflection and was going into the goal. From the corner Swindon broke but Sam Sodje cleared the danger. Gareth Whalley was booked for a foul on Isaiah Rankin as both sides looked for a win.

Brentford then brought on Marcus Gayle and Scott Fitzgerald to try and liven things up. Lloyd Owusu and Paul Brooker went off. Swindon brought on Christian Roberts at the same time replacing Colin Heath.

Andrew Gurney could quite possibly have been sent off if the referee had noticed his elbow on Tabb. Martin Allen was incensed by this attack and demanded justice and quite rightly so. He was later booked for timewasting.

Jerel Ifil then managed to get himself sent off for two bookable offences. His first booking, in the 81st minute, for a foul on Isaiah Rankin. From the free-kick Sam Sodje headed the ball over the bar. He got his marching orders in the 89th minute for a foul on Scott Fitzgerald. Brentford looked to capitalise on their man advantage and poured men forward but were unable to get the goal and the three points that they desperately wanted.
