Brentford suffered their first league defeat in six games and also made it even more crucial for them to win their games in hand if they wish to avoid the lottery of the playoffs in 2005/06.

Struggling with the away teams tactics of playing a physical and energetic game, the Bees were unable to finish several chances which they developed in a very one sided second half. Brentford now go into the midweek game with Doncaster looking for three points and to get back in the promotion trail.

What the manager said?

Martin Allen felt that his team were slightly unluky to come away with nothing from todays game,

"We started slowly but when they scored we came alive"

"It's a shame that we didnt get a good start or finish some of our chances because I think we played, it was only our finishing that was lacking"

He looked forward to the next game and vowed that his side will be ready,

"We've got a heavy schedule coming up with five games in two weeks but we'll just be taking it a game at a time and hopefully we can get back on track as soon as possible"

What the players said?

Brentford players we understandably disapointed with todays defeat, Lloyd Owusu the Bees disapointed striker said,

"We should have won the game by a couple of goals, with the amount of chances we created the players don't understand how we've lost"

"It's important to learn from this defeat but make sure we are ready for Doncaster on Tuesday."

Kevin O'Connor also commented,

"We didnt play at our best today but we should have won"

"Our finishing wasnt great and we all have to take responsibility and in training this week we'll be looking to put that right."

What the fans said?

Bees fans were slightly bemused by the Bees indifferent performance today, Janet Lee said,

"This is the reason we are in fifth not third."

Janet went onto say,

"This is exactly what happened to us last year, We've gotta wake up and start playing now we dont have the distraction of the cup"

Port Vale fan Phil could see this happening however,

"Player for player we have an equally good squad as brentford. We played the perfect game with counter attacking being our main tactic and I think we did wlel to hang on."
