Brentford 1 - 1 Chesterfield

As expectancy was high this week with Brentford having two home games in a week, the mood at Griffin Park was slightly disapointed at 5:00pm as Brentford could only manage a draw with Chesterfield.

A draw earned by Kevin O'Connor was the least which fans would have expected from the game, we spoke to Brentford's staff and fans after the game.

What the manager said?

Martin Allen was understandably upset that his side could not convert their home advantage into three points,

"I don't know if minds were elsewhere but we were lucky to claim a draw today"

"All credit to the players who worked hard to fight back and I thought we were going to sneak it in a frantic ending but that would have been far from what we deserved."

Allen looked forward to the Tuesday's game saying,

"I think it's fair to say that we'll have to be 100% better if we want to win against Oldham, but I hope the player can keep up their excellent efforts and show the desire they did today."

What the players said?

Stuart Nelson conveyed a squad wide feeling off disapointment,

"I think we just expected to turn up and win today because of our league position, but at home, it's natural for sides to come with a game plan which can be very difficult to break down"

"Credit to the boys though, as usual we battled back and it could have gone either way in the end"

DJ Campbell also spoke to us saying,

"In the end it was a disapointing result as with a win we could have made up some ground. But the way things panned out it was a point won instead of three lost."

What the fans said?

Speaking to Brentford fans outside the gate, most shared similar thoughts, James Chapman said,

"Brentford just expect teams to roll over for us, especially after our record last season. But we're not so much of an unknown quantity anymore and our tactics have to be more refined if we want to produce better results."

Chesterfield fan Kevin said,

"It's a credit to the way our team played that Brentford were lucky to escape with anything. Baring the crazy twenty minutes after they scored the game looked to be in the bag and in the end a point is a little disapointing for us."
