Brentford supporters were given a late Christmas present today as Martin Allen guided their side to the top of the League with a 2-1 win over Swansea at Griffin Park this afternoon.

Missing midfielder's Newman and Tabb two first half goals were enough to see off the challenge of the Welsh side and take Allen's side to the summit of the division ahead of the Doncaster game later this week.

As usual we heard from those involved.

What the manager said?

Brentford manager Martin Allen as you would expect was in a seasonally cheerful mode as his side picked up the three points today,

"Overall it was an excellent performance."

"I think we're starting to shift nicely along now and the confidence from our current run of good form paid dividends"

On the game itself the boss said,

"We definately deserved to win and their consolation made the game look a little closer. Their man being sent off helped but it was still tough to break them down."

What the players said?

A returning Marcus Gayle said,

"It was good to be back today, i felt fit and it was good to get a run out"

"As a team, we needed to be positive and ready from the off which we were and explains why the game seemed to confortable"

Goalscorer Kevin O'Connor said,

"Obviously we're delighted with being top, but complcency is not something which the manager allows in the camp so we'll move onto the next game and be trying to win it."

Goalkeeper Stuart Nelson said,

"Today was a fantastic day, the atmosphere was amazing. The fans spurred us on to an excellent performance and I think we deserved the three points."

What the fans said?

Of the massive bunch of Bees inside Griffin Park I spoke to a few who all seemed delighted,

Tom Barker said,

"I came expecting to see a tight game and in the end it looked easy"

Chris Patterson told me,

"I think we definately deserved the points today, the sending off helped but Swansea seemed frightened of what we could do"

On the atmosphere Swansea fan Clive said,

"Boxing Day is traditionally an occasion in the football calender not to be missed and today was no different. Brentford fans get alot of stick in the press and from other fans but the certainly turned out today in force and they helped create a special atmosphere."
