Brentford-Mad.co.uk Review of the Season 2005/06 - November

Despite sitting in fourth place in the table, Brentford's season was in danger of self destructing even at this early stage of the League One.

Defeat against Bournmouth at home in their final game of October capped a bad month for the team which had seen them fail to win in four games and register just one goal.

The month of November gave Brentford a chance to get their stuttering League campaign back on track as well as enter the FA Cup and attempt to better the previous seasons run which saw them narrowly edged out by Southamton after a replay.

The clubs first challenge was to defeat League Two Oxford in the first round, the bees were able to do so during a dodgy performance thanks to a penalty from Kevin O'Connor just on half time.

This win was enough to set up a second round tie with Oldham and also propel them to a winning start to the month in the League. Demonstrating their potential away from home Brentford beat Hartlepool 2-1 with goals from DJ Campbell and Lloyd Owusu.

It was pleasing sight for Allen, who had asked the bees attackers to start finding the net more often after a spell of poor recent form.

Next up for the Bees was a lively home encounter against Oldham. Hoping to show their hand ahead of the FA Cup battele a hat trick from the away sides forward Porter sent Athletic into a 3-1 lead before DJ Campbell and a last minute goal from Owusu gave Brentford a deserved point.

The final game of November was a reverse of the seasons opener against Scunthorpe who were themselves beginning to flag a little after a good start. Another two goal victory was enough to keep Brentford in fourth place with goals from Brooker and two from Pratley answering back an early goal from Goodwin who was sent off late in the game.

A 3-1 win was enough to inspire Brentford ahead of their opening game of December which was their important FA Cup game against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.
