Brentford-Mad.co.uk Season Review 2005/06 - October

Last updated : 24 July 2006 By Smallsy
After failing to win any of their last three games of the month, Brentford started October with a tough match against Rotherham at Griffin Park.

Finding themselves 1-0 down to a Deon Burton goal in eight minutes the bees fought back through a O'Connor penalty and a goal from Rankin in the first half to claim a much needed three points and push themselevs back up towards third place in the league.

The bees next game ended in a 1-0 win with a goal from substitute Scott Fitzgerald. The team beaten were an Oldham side who Brentford were to see a lot of last season and came as a much needed tonic. The game however was marred by the sending off of DJ Campbell who was dismissed for violent conduct. Able to post back to back wins however Fitzgerald popped up just a minute after coming on to net the winner.

The teams winning run unfortunately came to an end against Oxford in the LDV vans trophy game as the bees were beaten on penalties at Griffin Park, 4-3 after drawing 1-1. That man Fitzgerald was able to give Brentford the lead once more but pegged back just before half time the bees exited another competition in disapointing fashion.

Back to the League and Brentford suffered some what of a hangover from their cup defeat, drawing 0-0 with Swindon at home before failing to register once more against Blakpool away from home. Both results will have disapointed both the fans and the manager as his side seemed to be back to their inconsistent best. The two draws however kept Brentford in fourth and just five points of Southend who stormed into a lead over Swansea.

The month unfortunately ended on a negative as Brentford lost only their third home league game of the season beaten 2-0 in a poor game by Bournmouth. Goals from Hayter and Keene gave the Cherries a shock 2-0 win and left the bees reeling after losing touch with the leaders once more.

The lack of goals from Brentford in the last few games seemed to be the least of their worries with the team playing poorly and not able to string a set of good performances together. With the leading three pulling away November would need Brentford to put together some wins and also attempt to stay in the final cup competition of the season, The FA Cup.
