Brentford-Mad.co.uk Season Review 2005/06 - September

Still reeling from an embarassing League Cup exit which saw them defeated at Cheltenham Town, Brentford stepped into the month of September looking to put an average and unpredicable start behind them.

After three games in a week following the Cup clash with the League Two side, Brentford travelled to a struggling Nottingham Forest looking to head top of the League. The bees were able to not only claim a 2-1 win but also ousted Scunthorpe at the League One summit.

Their next game also brought a win as Milton Keynes were dispatched 1-0 at Griffin Park before Brentford suffered their first League defeat since the opening Monday of the season as Huddersfield picked up a 3-2 win over Brentford. Town leaped above the bees into second and with Scunthorpe also winning Brentford slipped to fourth as the bees were denied a third consecutive win when Schofield and Booth both scored in injury time after Rankin and Cambell had put Brentford 2-1 up at the start of the second half.

The Bees were forced to suffer again as they were defeated 3-2 by Bristol City, this time in front of their home crowd. New manager Gary Johnson managed to get his career off to a flying start as they rushed into a 2-0 lead before being pegged back and being given the victory by Steve Brooker with fifteen minutes left.

Brentford clearly needed to rebuild and a much changed team faced Walsall away three days later. Sadly the away side could not claim three points from yet another frustrating match and were forced to settle for a point in their final game of the month.

With the club still as inconsistent as ever it was clear that Martin Allen was going to have to work some magic to change the fortuns of his club.
