Chesterfield 1 - 3 Brentford - The fanzone view

The Brentford bandwagon moved onto Chesterfield for the second game for the season. Martin Allen named an unchanged 11 for the start but brought Sam Tillen and Joe Keenan onto the bench in place of Scott Fitzgerald and Michael Dobson.

Both teams started strongly having won their first game. Brentford started the stonger and were in front after 13 minutes.

Paul Brooker swung in a corner and Sam Sodje, last year’s fans player of the year, got his head to the ball and put it in the back of the net to give Brentford the lead. His dance celebration was interesting.

Chesterfield came back strongly and looked to grab the equaliser. Aaron Downes was booked for a challenge on Isaiah Rankin. Downes was injured in the challenge and had to be brought off.

Chesterfield equalised in the 27th minute through Paul Hall. This was the player that we were wrongly accused of racially abusing last year. Nicholson crossed the ball into the box and Paul Hall put it into the bottom left of the goal from 6 yards.

Sam Tillen replaced Olafur Ingi Skulason who had taken a knock. Brentford pushed forward looking for the goal that would take them joint top. Andy Frampton got forward more and had a shot over the bar just before half time.

The game went to half time with the match tightly poised at 1-1. Whoever got the better start in the second half would more than likely win the game.

Brentford got off to the best possible start with only 7 minutes played a moment of magic from Isaiah Rankin put them ahead again. Lloyd Owusu headed the ball to Rankin and he curled the ball from 25 yards into the top corner.

Brentford were now joint top again and looking to go clear on goal difference. Owusu had a shot parried from 6 yards. However the third goal came and it was another beauty from Isaiah Rankin. His 18 yard volley went into the bottom right hand corner and now Brentford were top on goal difference.

Folan was brought on for DeBolla to try and pull one backMark Allott was booked for a foul on Jay Tabb as Chesterfield looked frustrated.

Brentford came close to adding a fourth to their tally but Tabb’s effort was stopped by Roche. Brentford held onto their two goal advantage to go Top Of the League. Yes only after 2 games but its still a nice feeling. It was the first win against them under Martin Allen as well.
