While FA Cup games went on around them Brentford suffered their second defeat in as many games, losing away from home to two Darren Byfield goals with the home game even being reduced to nine men after having two players sent off.

Using up one of their games in hand, the bees slipped to a worrying third defeat of the month facing a battle to hang onto the automatic promotion places.

As the game ended three one, the bees had large amounts of posession, but could not seem to find a way through. Largely being undone on the counter, Brentford it seemed were rocked by a penalty making it 2-1 on the stroke of half time, through former Villa striker Byfield, who tormented the defenders all game.

What the manager said?

Martin Allen was in phylosophical mood saying,

"It's not the end of the world because we lost a game."

"I'm happy with the performance and the way we battled back, but I just don't think mentally we were right tonight."

Believing that the Bees had been undone by the penalty on half time he said,

"That was the killer blow. I think it could have gone either way, but we move on from this and look to bounce back at the weekend."

What the players said?

Defender and goalscorer Michael Turner said,

"it was nice to get a goal, but it means nothing to me as the team lost"

"We played well in patches but in this division you have to do better than that."

Keeper Stuart Nelson echoed his thoughts saying,

"We played well for short spells of time and I thought that was going to be enough. But away from home you have to defend well and thats something we didnt do."

What the fans said?

Disapointed bee Charlotte Evans said,

"Brentford were disapointing tonight. I expected us to get three points, but it just proves that you can't take anything for granted."

On the other hand a jubilant Andy Youseff told me,

"After being beaten 6-0 at the weekend I feared the worst but we struck it lucky today and I'm delighted."
