Shane Long scored twice as Premier League Reading claimed an emphatic victory over Brentford at
Griffin Park.

Nicky Shorey, Seol Ki-Hyeon, Simon Church and Andre Bikey also converted for the Royals - while Sammy Moore scored a stunning long-range goal for the Bees.

Brentford came closest to opening the scoring when Lee Thorpe sent a header from a left-wing cross against the bar after only seven minutes.

However, the Royals went ahead after 24 minutes when John Oster's through-ball released Shorey - whose first-time shot was saved by Simon Brown only for Long to slot in a simple close-range effort.

The visitors were dominant, but the League Two side hit back when Alan Connell curled a free-kick narrowly wide.

The Bees equalised five minutes after half-time when Moore hit a 30-yard shot into the left-hand corner - but just two minutes later Reading were back in front through Shorey's 22-yard free-kick.

Both sides were creating chances, but Seol put the visitors further ahead on 65 minutes when he slotted home calmly from 10 yards.

Ryan Peters could have pulled one back for Brentford but blazed the ball wide; then the Premier League side added to their lead through Church, who timed his run to perfection and curled his shot into the right-hand corner.

Long added a fifth when he easily beat the defenders and slotted home, Bikey then concluding the scoring after 87 minutes when he headed home Seol's corner.
