Bees boss thinking only of survival

Having lost to the League leaders at the weekend, Scott Fitzgerald was in no doubt that quality and not effort were the difference between the two sides.

Commenting yesterday that he feels that Brentford are continually suffering at the hands of luck, he urged his team to play without fear and also become slightly more direct if they are hoping to survive.

The manager himself is still hopeful that the Bees can perform well in their next two crucial games without top scorer Jo Kuffour and said,

"It doesn't matter how many times we pass the ball unless we score at the end of it. I'd rather make one pass into the boz and score but it's not that easy."

He praised his weekend opponents saying,

"Scunthorpe are a top side because they make fewer mistakes than any other side. They've got men in their side who known the game, they get the ball forward and have very good strikers."

Fitzgerald said he 'encourages his team to play' but warned,

"I've got to be honest, at the moment I'm not interested in playing football. I just want to win. I'd love to pass the ball around but at the moment I'll just take winning the game and work on passing next season."
