Brentford 1 - 1 Hartlepool

Brentford's up and down season at Griffin Park came to an end disapointingly at 5:00pm this evening as the home side were denied victory once more by a last minute goal from Nelson to keep the away side in League One and take it to the last game of the season.

After dominating most of the game, the Bees found the net in the second half, with O'Connor breaking the deadlock with a curling free kick. In a largely frustrating game for Brentford they looked to have secured a nervy three points seemingly relegating the away side and keeping alive they promotion hopes in one swoop.

However they were undone by a smart finish from a corner in the 90th minute and we left to settle for a point and the almost certainty of having to come back to Griffin Park at least once more for a playoff match.

What the manager said?
Martin Allen was noticably unhappy with his sides sloppy defending towards the end of the game saying,

"It's a shame it had to end like this at Griffin Park."

"We deserved so much more from the game but once again found out that not taking our chances at this level can be costly. Hopefully we can learn from this"

He did however state,

"Take nothing away from Hartlepool, they are battling for their lives and they hung on so they deserve to be very proud of their performance."

On reflection the boss agreed with many supporters over his clubs form at Griffin Park this season,

"Too often we've been victim to frustrating games. Today summed up our form in recent months and over the whole year at home."
