Brentford are faced with a difficult task in the first round of the newly renamed Carling Cup, after the draw made this morning paired them away at recently relegated Premiership club, West Bromwich Albion.

Gary Megson's team are bound to be a tough nut to crack, especially at home and it is to be hoped that Brentford can repeat their last cup success over the Baggies, when the Bees' triumphed 4-2 on aggregate in the old Worthington Cup five years ago.

However, the competition now comprises of one-off matches in the first round and Brentford will travel to the Hawthorns on Tuesday 12th August, kick-off 7.45pm.

Nb. The Carling (League) Cup replaces the competition formerly known as the Worthington Cup, after the Football League announced they had agreed a new three-year sponsorship package with Coors Brewers Ltd, the owners of the Carling brand, yesterday (Tuesday).
