Brentford hold talks with Mykhaylo Mudryk & Mykola Matvienko over summer transfers

Brentford have spoken to Shakhtar Donetsk about Mykhaylo Mudryk and Mykola Matvienko ahead of potential moves this summer, 90min understands.

The Bees were interested in signing 21-year-old winger Mudryk back in January but were unable to get a deal over the line, and the west London club are now looking into a summer transfer.

Thomas Frank's side are also interested in adding versatile left-sided defender Matvienko to their ranks. The 25-year-old has already made 47 appearances for the Ukraine national team and has been watched closely by a number of Premier League clubs in the last year, including Everton, Southampton and West Ham.

Shakhtar's domestic season has been suspended due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with the club currently embarking on a 'Global Tour for Peace', partaking in a series of friendlies against European sides.

FIFA and UEFA opened a temporary transfer window to allow foreign players in Ukraine and Russia to suspend their contracts and seek moves elsewhere until the end of the season. This window has since closed and Mudryk and Matvienko would not have been eligible to leave on such deals anyway.

90min first reported that the Premier League would not allow clubs to make use of this temporary window, a factor that saw Lyon beat Southampton to the initial loan signing of Tete from Shakhtar. Brentford were also interested in the Brazilian winger.
