Allen and Oli shaking hands after agreeing a deal today
Martin Allen took a break from his UEFA course at Warwick University today to sign former Arsenal player Oli Skulason. The Icelandic U21 captain signed a two year contract with the Bees after being released by the Gunners two weeks ago.

Allen commented,

"I have liked him and watched him for a long period of time and tried to get him here when I arrived because we were short of midfield players"

He has one international cap and played only one first team game for Arsenal as well as being a subsititute on several occasions. The player had been linked with the club since his release and Martin said,

"The football club has a strong link with Icelandic players and I'm sure he will develop into a great asset."

At the current time only a verbal agreement has been made but the player is expected to sign on the dotted line one friday at a press conference.

"Central midfield is a vital area in this League and Oli has proved over his four years with Arsenal that his technical ability allows him to control the game. He is very competetive, a great character with a dour personality, all he wants is first team football and at Brentford Football Club we can provide that" added the boss who after signing the player joked,

"I'd better get back to school at Warwick Uni and no doubt take a clip round the ear for missing a lecture on 'mental preparation in football'."
