Brentford striker Ivan Toney has announced he is 'assisting the FA with their enquiries' after he was reported to be under investigation for betting on football.
It was reported in national newspapers that the 26-year-old is under investigation for historical bets made before he joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020.
FA rules prohibit professional footballers from betting on any matches.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Toney wrote: "I'm aware of a story about me in a national newspaper today.
"I have been assisting the Football Association with their enquiries and will not be making any comment until such investigation has reached its conclusion.
"I am a proud Englishman and it has always been my childhood dream to play for my country at a World Cup finals."
Toney has scored eight goals in 14 appearances for the Bees this season, earning himself a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad back in September.
While the striker did not get on the pitch for those games, he will be hopeful of making the cut for England's World Cup squad later this month.
