Brentford to bring in Eastern promise

There was always going to be a cash insentive behind Brentford's newly aqquired shirt sponsors deal, however it appears that the main benefit may be for the club as Samvo's director stated yesterday his desire for the club to bring in a Chinese International to help both parties during the 2006/07 season.

With Samvo just starting out as a company it was seen as a great opertunity to sponsor a club like Brentford and as Wayne Openshaw confirmed to the press he is hoping to aid Brentford by funding a deal for a new player for the club,

"We would be prepared to pay anything from 250,000 to 750,000 to bring in a Chinese Intenational to the club in the coming year."

Obviously this would help the marketing of both Brentford and Samvo as we have seen the impact of Aisian players in the Premiership and the Championship in the past when it comes to merchandising, however it is questionable whether any of the players from the squad who qualified for the 2002 World Cup would be interested in joining a club which plays its football in the second tier of English football.

Openshaw said,

"Wing Feng, the Chinese national team captain, was interested until Brentford failed to win promotion."

So while Brentford are looking to pick up players on the cheap it may be only a matter of time before Samvo step in and insist that the club splash out on an International to help the marketing of the club.
