Brentford team news

Toney is believed to have recovered | Visionhaus/GettyImages

Having not played in almost two weeks, Brentford's team news is a bit of a mystery. Ivan Toney is understood to have recovered from Covid-19, while Ethan Pinnock could return as his positive test was over ten days ago.

David Raya, Julian Jeanvier, Josh Dasilva and Kristoffer Ajer all remain out, and this game is also expected to come too soon for Zanka as well.

After complaining of a lack of fit players for the draw with Wolves, Thomas Tuchel has called up a whole host of academy stars to make up the numbers for this one, and you can expect plenty of them to see some minutes here.

As far as first-teamers go, Trevoh Chalobah and Hakim Ziyech picked up injuries against Wolves and will likely be kept on the sidelines alongside Andreas Christensen, who has a back problem. N'Golo Kante will also sit out after playing the full 90 against Wolves.

Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Jorginho have all tested positive for Covid-19, although the latter has recently tested negative and was back in training for this one.

Brentford vs Chelsea head-to-head record

These two met earlier in the season and nearly served up a real shock, with Brentford losing 1-0 but having Edouard Mendy to blame for the fact they didn't win 4-1.

That match was just the fourth meeting between the two, and the third straight from which Brentford emerged on the losing side.

The 2016/17 FA Cup fourth round saw Antonio Conte's Chelsea romp to a 4-0 win, but Brentford's squad is entirely different now and only two Chelsea players from that day remain - Cesar Azpilicueta and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Brentford vs Chelsea score prediction

Chelsea should have enough about them | Visionhaus/GettyImages

This one is really tough to call. Neither side are themselves right now and we're likely to see some heavy rotation from both as they look to combat the gruelling winter schedule.

You'd back Chelsea's depth to be too much for Brentford, but should Tuchel turn to a lot of academy players, that dynamic would be turned on its head. Realistically, it's impossible to predict this one accurately.

Will everything that's going on, neither side will be at their fluid best, so expect a pretty low-scoring affair.

Prediction: Brentford 0-1 Chelsea
