Chelsea to Make ?40m-Rated Brentford Star Said Benrahma a 'Priority'

Chelsea may have already splashed around £35m on Ajax star Hakim Ziyech for the coming season, but it seems the Blues are far from finished when it comes to bolstering their attacking options.

Frank Lampard's side did not spend a penny last summer after receiving a transfer ban, and they opted not to strengthen their squad in January, either. But the west London club is looking to add some quality to their lineup for next season, having already made a start with the talented Moroccan, whose arrival was confirmed in February.

And the Blues are not stopping there, either. According to French outlet Le Gazette du Fennec, Chelsea have made Brentford forward Said Benrahma their 'priority' for the summer transfer window, and the Premier League side have 'already contacted' the player over a potential €40m move.

In fact, the Blues were believed to be in talks with the 24-year-old in January, but an agreement never materialised, as they focussed their attention on securing the Ziyech deal. But Chelsea have not given up on signing the Brentford star, although the price tag could prove to be a stumbling block.

The Premier League side know they must pay £40m to land the Algerian star, but they are hopeful that the recent financial implications of the coronavirus outbreak could see Brentford lower their asking price to around €30-35m.

Brentford are not willing to lose their star asset for cheap however, having already rejected a €16m offer from Aston Villa for their winger in the summer of 2019, and his stock has only risen over the course of this season.

Benrahma has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season, and he has contributed 10 goals and eight assists to the Bees' promotion push, while dazzling viewers with his impressive footwork and dribbling ability.

But any deal for the talented forward will hand Brentford a huge profit on their creative forward, having paid a measly €1.7m for his services back in July 2018.
