With the win against Scunthorpe behind them at the weekend Martin Allen's men travelled to Chesterfield to pick up three more valuable points tonight and put themselves to the top of League One as the early pace setters.

The game itself was a tough fought one with the Bees going ahead early through Sodje, only to be pegged back by a player the club had been linked with in the Summer, Hall.

In the second half two goals in quick sucession from Isaiah Rankin gave the Bees a deserved 3-1 lead and and excellent base to build on for the coming season.

Fresh from the game we spoke to several of the involved parties in tonight's game.

What the boss said?

At the full time whistle Martin Allen look thrilled and jumped for joy as Brentford won and he picked up his first win ovr Chesterfield as the clubs manager he said,

"It's a good feeling to have picked up a win again, we're not getting carried away though to us it's just another three points added to the total we'll be looking to get three more next week against Port Vale"

On the game itself Allen said,

"It was a tough physical battle, Chesterfield are no lightweights and they wanted the win as much as us. I think overall we deserved it, we took our chances well and I'm pleased we recovered from the set back of the equaliser. The two goals so close together were he key, I think it knocked the stuffing out of them"

Speaking on tonight's match winner the manager said,

"Isaiah did well, he's been lively in pre season and training, I challenged him to score more goals after last year tally and hopefully he can do that"

What the players said?

Marcus Gayle was first to speak to us saying,

"We did well again, it was an enjoyable game but a tough battle, all credit to them, they tried to play their game but I think our tactics were spot on"

Injured Captain Ricky Newman watched the game from the stands and said,

"The boys all did well tonight, it was good to see them performing at a high level, I'm looking forward to fighting for my place when the injury heals."

Andy Framton alson had time for a quick word and said,

"I think it was a valuable win, but it's value will only be shown at the end of the season if it propells us into a decent position"

What the opposition said?

Roy Mcfarland was pleased with the display and felt his side may have deserved better,

"We played well but they took their chances better than we did ours, infact we struggled to create anything on note in the second half. Of course we pressure them but at this level you need clear cut goalscoring oppertunities"

"Brentford are tough to break down defensively and can hit you on the break, the two quick goals illustrated their strengths and our weakness"

What the fans said?

Brentford fan Andy Moore told me,

"We deserved the three points thats for sure, they didnt really threaten us seriously second half, we travel back to the south a very delighted bunch of supporters"

On the other fan, John, a Chesterfield fan said,

"I think it was difficult to say that the result was a fair one, ok Brentford played well in patches but for long periods of time we had the ball but couldnt do anything with it. Their niggly play stopped the flowing football we enjoy" I's say 3-1 was very flattering"
