Christian Eriksen reveals he hopes Tottenham get into Champions League

Christian Eriksen has revealed he remains a Tottenham fan and wants the club to qualify for the Champions League this season.

The Denmark international faced his old side on Saturday for the first time since leaving for Inter in January 2020, though a lot has changed for Eriksen and Spurs in that time.

He is now earning rave reviews with on his return to elite level football with Brentford, having suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Eriksen looked the player most likely to break the deadlock on Saturday night, but neither side could find a way through and it ended a goalless draw, denting Tottenham's top four bid and taking Brentford to the magical 40-point total associated with Premier League survival.

After the game, Eriksen told Sky Sports: “Obviously it was the first time playing against Spurs since I left so it would be special, but I’m okay with a draw.

“I was extra [nervous]...but it was lovely.”

The draw means Tottenham slipped out of the top four, with Arsenal beating Manchester United earlier on Saturday to take pole position during the final throes of the season.

“I’m still a Spurs fan,” Eriksen added. “I hope they get in the Champions League.”

90min understands Spurs are confident of bringing Eriksen back to the club in the summer, though any such move would depend on manager Antonio Conte staying and Champions League qualification.
