Christian Eriksen scores on return to Denmark national side

Christian Eriksen made a scoring return to the Denmark national team nearly 10 months on from his cardiac arrest in a 4-2 loss to the Netherlands on Saturday.

The 30-year-old was fitted with an ICD after collapsing during Denmark's Euro 2020 opener with Finland last summer, with Serie A regulations meaning that he later had to leave Inter.

After his contract at San Siro was mutually terminated, Eriksen signed for Premier League side Brentford in January and is already proving to be a fan favourite in west London.

Eriksen has made no secret of his desire to play at the 2022 World Cup and was called back into Kasper Hjullmand's setup for the March internationals.

And on Saturday evening, the midfielder marked his return to the Danish national side with a thumping strike in their 4-2 friendly loss at the Netherlands.

Eriksen replaced Jesper Lindstrom at half-time and two minutes into the second 45, was picked out by Andreas Skov Olsen on the edge of the penalty area, firing into the top corner at the Johan Cruyff Arena where he previously spent four years with Ajax.

Netherlands went into half-time 3-1 up. Steven Bergwijn headed the hosts in front but Jannik Vestergaard equalised, though Nathan Ake and Memphis Depay struck for the Oranje before the break. Bergwijn grabbed his brace with 20 minutes remaining to double the advantage again.
