Downes: On the look out for new talent
Brentford manager, Wally Downes is thought to be interested in bringing Middlesbrough youngsters, Jamie Cade and Phil Gulliver to the club in loan deals.

Both youngsters have been recommended to Downes by Riverside boss, Steve McClaren, and are expected to be offered the chance to impress during the Bees' pre-season friendlies.

Gulliver is a tall defender who has yet to make his first team debut for the Premiership outfit, but he did gain valuable league experience at AFC Bournemouth towards the end of last season, figuring in eleven of their games as the Dean Court men regained their Nationwide Second Division status at the first attempt last May.

Prior to his spell on the south coast, the 20-year-old had enjoyed a loan spell at fellow Nationwide Second Division club, Blackpool, and played one match for Nationwide Third Division outfit, Carlisle United.

Meanwhile Cade, 19, is a 5ft 8in forward who made his debut for Middlesbrough in their Worthington Cup Third Round exit at Ipswich Town last November, a month after the north easterners had beaten Brentford at Griffin Park in the same competition.
