Brentford's third match of their pre-season campaign has finished in a goalless draw at St James' Park this evening.

Jay Smith:
Went close early on.
Wally Downes' men, conscious of the need for an improvement on Saturday's fragile performance at fellow West Country club,
Yeovil Town, started brightly, with Leo Roget and midfielder, Jay Smith both coming close to breaking the deadlock in the opening quarter.

Thereafter, Kevin O'Connor nearly carved open a goal scoring opportunity following a telling run, before the Bees had vociferous appeals for a penalty turned down, youngster Jay Tabb appearing to have been felled in the penalty area by the Grecians' trialist, ex-Bristol Rovers defender, Lewis Hogg.

The second half was a more closely contested affair, with chances few and far between.

For the away side the industrious Eddie Hutchinson headed over from close range following good work by the impressive Mark Peters, whilst at the other end, the hosts nearly nicked the spoils late on, reserve team goalkeeper, Alan Julian, making an excellent save to deny Exeter City’s Dwayne Lee.

Brentford line-up:

Smith (Julian, 68), Dobson (Allen-Page, 57), Somner, Tabb (Traynor, 57), Sonko (Thomas, 75), Roget, Hutchinson, Smith (J) (Peters, 64), O’Connor (Hughes, 64), Hunt (McDonald, 71), McPhee (Blackman, 46).
