Gibbs played for the 1st time in 6 weeks said, "Everyone's going to look at that game and expect us to play exactly the same week in, week out (refering to Brighton). Every games different and you don't always play the same.

"As long as we can keep the team united and tight and work for each as we were at the start of the season, then there's no reason why we can't push from there. Colchester play a lot of pretty football but not a lot of probing, We were strong at the back with Powelly and Ivar played very well for us," he said.

"I was very tired, I've played just one reserve team game in six weeks so I've trained with the first team for four days and got back in, luckily for me, Ijah was suspended so I've thrown back in but it's hard.

"Playing the in the reserves is nowhere near the same as playing in the first team and I was a couple of yards short and I'll hold my hands up and admit that but I'll get better to the form I was in before I was injured and with the help of the lads I'll get there."

Steve Coppell was disappointed with the performance upfront and said: "We gave the ball away far too easily, especially up front, and that is something we will have to work on.

"I thought the defence was outstanding and the midfield worked very hard, but in the end we suffered from giving the ball away too cheaply."

He added: "It was disappointing to go one up and then not win because at 1-0 I thought there was going to be only one winner.

"But away from home we are a bit like a cricketer in the nervous nineties. We did everything right and looked so good in the first-half, and then got a bit jittery and let them back into the game."
