The ex-youth team manager was placed in charge of the team following the departure of Rosenior, but Fitzgerald who spoke of his 'excitement and optimism' last week before the Cheltenham game does not know whether he is a candidate for the full time post or not,

"You'll have to ask the board that, whether I'm a candidate for the permanent position.

"The board will make that decision. It doesn't matter how many times you ask the question or how you word it - the board will decide who and when they want to put someone in charge. I'll just be in charge until I'm in charge.

"If it's Doncaster then great; if not then someone else will be in charge. I know what my responsibility is and that's to win games. If we don't win games I know what the consequences are." he told the Wimbledon Courier
