Paul Gibbs, recently been put on the transfer list will more than likely step in if fit.

Gibbo told this weeks Chronicle his reaction to being handed a free transfer last week.

Gibbo said "To be honest I was half expecting it because with Ron Noades you never can tell what he is going to do next".

"When the boss told me I just laughed because I couldn't believe they were telling me at this stage of the season with us doing so well."

He said: "I still have 15 months left on my contract and I will be giving it everything until the very end. It was disappointing to be told the chairman didn't want me because I have never been as settled at any club as I am at Brentford.

"I feel I am a major part of the team both on and off the field. A lot of things come through me off the park - the younger lads come to me for advice and I had my sights set on maybe becoming captain at some stage."

"I have been having a bit of a laugh with Stephen Hunt lately because he has got my place in the side. Whenever I walk near him after training I keep sniffing and saying "Hunty, you can smell me can't you...I'm after your place,"

"Hunty knows I'm joking and it's all a bit of fun, but the serious side is that it keeps him playing at the top of his game.

Whenever he and Ijah Anderson do well I'm always the first to congratulate them."

"I want to stay at Brentford and finish what we've started. Gibbs has apparently already had two offers from other clubs since his free transfer was circulated to other managers.

"I could go to another club and pick up a big signing on fee but right now I'm happy at Brentford and want to make sure we give the fans what they want - promotion."
