Ivan Toney wants to sign new contract at Brentford

Ivan Toney is keen on signing a new and improved contract at Brentford to reflect his status as a proven Premier League player, 90min understands.

The former Peterborough forward began the season in terrifying form, tormenting centre-backs across the country. However, he failed to consistently find the back of the net and spent the winter months in and out of Thomas Frank's team with injuries and Covid-related issues.

Toney has since found his feet as a top-flight striker and is the joint-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League alongside Harry Kane, with both registering 12 goals so far this season. He also ranks seventh in terms of total goals and assists provided.

90min understands Toney would like to see his form rewarded with a pay rise. The 26-year-old is happy at Brentford despite a couple of videos emerging on social media this year of him badmouthing the club.

There remains plenty of interest in the striker's services, though. Elsewhere in the capital, Arsenal and West Ham are admirers of Toney, while further north Everton, Newcastle and Wolves are keeping a watchful eye.

But as mentioned, Toney is settled in London with his family and is content with life with the Bees.

If Brentford were to sell Toney - who the club believe will become an England international in the near future - they would demand a fee exceeding £50m. The Bees would point to the sale of Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa for around £30m while they were still a Championship club as their reasoning behind such a lofty price tag.

Elsewhere at Brentford, 90min recently reported that the Bees face a real battle in trying to keep Christian Eriksen beyond the end of this season, with former club Tottenham interested in re-signing the Dane.
