After promotion from League Two via second place last season, Sccunthorpe were handed the test of facing the Bees at Griffin Park on August 6th in the first game of the League One season.

Widely tipped for relegation and around 250/1 to win the title it is predicted that Scunthorpe will struggle to maintain the pace in League One and that they will face a return to League Two.

However speaking to the press this morning Irons manager Brian Laws seemed more confident than the pundits,

"We have a squad that is covered from every angle, I feel it is capable of doing well in League One, prehaps even pushing for a play off place"

The boss used Brentford success last season as a perfect example for his plan,

"Our first opponents in 2005/06 Brentford are a perfect example of where we want to be come May, it will be a good yard stick as to how we can perform this season. They struggled a year ago but last season they made the play offs, there isnt that much difference between all the teams in this league"

Laws also said of his first opponents,

"Im hoping to go see them play at some point, possibly against Charlton or Leyton Orient. Pre season is a difficult time to assess a team but ive looked at them last seson and it should be a tough task."
