| Gav or “sideshow” as he is known among Brentford fans for looking similar to a character in the cartoon “The Simpsons” swept all the awards that were going last season, after Ray Lewington changes his fortunes at the club by dropping him back to sweeper instead of central midfield. A highly rated player, but in my opinion never shone in the centre of the park. He looked lacklustre and sometimes interested, but was absolutely superb playing at sweeper. Gavin has only a year of his contract remaining, and is likely to leave the club next summer on a Bosman despite lots of interest from the club he supports – Birmingham City and his old club – Wolves. Ray Lewington rated Gav as the best player at the club last season, and it will be down to Gav to see if he is as effective in his favoured role in centre midfield under Steve Coppell. Trandy es I was one of those that could see absolutely nothing in this man before Ray Lewington's divine intervention. Proves what I know doesn't it! The way the coaches raved about Gavin though gave me some hope, and his performances at the back have been a revelation.
