Martin Allen named BBC Radio London's Sports Personality of the Year

To the suprise of the man himself and to many Brentford fans, Martin Allen was today named London Sport's Personality of the year, beating off challenges from Andrew Strauss and Jose Mourinho.

The announcement was made this afternoon on Danny Kelly's show and Allen will now being invited to join a host of sporting legens on next weeks National Sport's Personality of the year show.

A shocked Brentford manager said,

"Well I won, can't quite believe it!"

"Without the help and support of my players who truly do make me proud on and off the field; my staff who work very had to help and support me and without the Brentford fans I feel I would be nothing."

"I also want to say a special thank you to my family who have backed me and supported me no matter what I've been through. It was they who persuaded me not to give up when I couldn't find a job a few years ago and carry on to fulfill my abition. This award is for everybody. this award is not for me"

Allen will pick up his award on Tuesday nigh before kick off.
