Nelson to miss pre-season friendlies

The injured Stuart Nelson is expected to return to action within a month
In his column on the official website this morning Martin Allen told the fans that training was going well and that the players were preparing for a double session this morning in order to be fit for the pre season friendly against Staines on Saturday.

Bad news on the player front though as the Brentford injury curse seems to have struck again as keeper Stuart Nelson who was carrying an injury into the Summer break has been told he needs an operation which will keep him out for four to six weeks, meaning he will probably miss most of the pre-season preparation.

Allen said,

"We'd hoped with rest over the Summer that his hernia would simply heal however it doesn't seem as though that's worked and when he went to see the specialist they suggested an operation"

This leaves Martin with one first team goalkeeper in his 22 man squad for the game on Saturday however he is expected to include one of the academy goalkeepers to make up the numbers.

The boss however was optimistic about Nelson's return to first team action,

"Stuart did remarkably well for first full season as a professional player. But I am confident that he will return and be ready for the start of the season".
