With immediate effect, the club has announced a SMOKING BAN throughout the entire Griffin Park stadium!

The BFC official website report is as follows:

SMOKE FREE REMINDER

This is to remind our supporters that The Football League has announced the introduction of a 'smoke free' policy. The new policy anticipates and exceeds expected government legislation in this area and is consistent with the wishes of the majority of over 43,000 fans who participated in a Nationwide Football League Supporters' Survey.

Consequently, smoking will not be permitted throughout the confines of our Stadium, with immediate effect.

To be clear, nobody will be permitted to smoke - from the gate of entry, anywhere within the confines of Griffin Park, whether they are in a room, under a roof or under the sky, no matter who they are.

Given that the immediate surrounds of Griffin Park Stadium are very 'tight' and we are in the heart of a residential area, the Club consulted with local residents, Police and other bodies with Health & Safety responsibilities. It was decided that Brentford Football Club were unable to make appropriate options to provide for smokers on matchdays. For example, a pass-out system allowing smokers to exit the gates, smoke and return would be an additional safety concern for the Police (possible opposing fans contact), need the Club to monitor (extra attention/cost) and be unacceptable to local residents. Also, the 'tight' design of our Stadium does not allow for designated smoking space to be created on all sides of the ground.

Brentford FC supports the intent of The Football League to make a serious, long-term commitment to encourage a new generation of supporters at our matches. The League stated, "We aim to get more families and more young fans going along to watch their local Football League club. This new policy will ensure that doing so does not have a negative effect on their health". This is the latest stage in that process.

We ask all our supporters to assist us in helping to achieve our goal of having a 'smoke free' stadium here at Griffin Park.

Thank you.
