Brentford manager Wally Downes is confident that a number of his senior players will be staying at Griffin Park.

Speaking to the Hounslow Guardian, Downes confirmed:

"Kevin O'Connor has agreed to a new three-year deal which he should sign as soon as he gets back from playing for the Republic of Ireland. I am confident Matt Somner and Jay Smith will stay and am hopeful that Steve Hunt will agree to what we have offered him as well."

Downes: Shoulder operation

Meanwhile Downes, who last week underwent a shoulder operation, is hopeful of signing striker Scott Ramsay from Eastbourne Borough for around £25,000 as well as persuading Portsmouth to loan him Rowan Vine for a further season.

In other news, the club are taking up the one-year option on centre back, Ibrahima Sonko, the Senegal Under 21 player, who made 37 league appearances last season and impressed many who saw him.
