Ron talks about extending players' contracts before they expired. He says "extending players' contracts before they expired which is something I have always done if we wanted to retain the players for the future. In our case the salaries the respective players are earning are already in excess of what we can afford and there was little point in offering them even more money and therefore increasing our deficit further and in any event players with one year to go are reluctant to take a new contract when they can substantially increase their income when they are free to move. The EEC and the Bosman ruling are destroying all of the Football League clubs at the present time. Believe me if I could have extended contracts without going out of business before this season finished I would have done and no-one could have forecasted at the start of the season how we were going to do and our average gate last season was 4,600. If that had happened this year we would have made a loss before we paid any players any wages at all."

Tomorrows opponents and rivals for promotion, Stoke City made a bit for Bees Welsh International Paul Evans on Wednesday night, which Ron turned down with the Bees going for promotion. Meanwhile Stoke did sign Ian Brightwell, Wigan midfielder Tony Dinning and Liverpool reserve striker John Miles. All three are in line for his debut in tomorrow's cruncher at Brentford.

Hopefully they wont gel well!

Bees captain Paul Evans has been quoted as saying: "The fans give us such a huge lift before we even start so we need them firing on all cylinders from now on in".

"I'm not too sure about the ticket situation but if every Brentford fan can bring five mates along to give us a shout then it could be worth a head start to us."
