Despite losing some of their preparation time the Bees took a surprise 59th-minute lead through Ben Strevens, but second-placed United salvage a point when Jermaine Beckford netted his 25th goal of the season and his first since late January.

He said: "We acquitted ourselves admirably. We knew we would have a lot of defending to do and we adapted very well.

"When we came into this league we didn't know how the young lads would cope with big teams like Leeds but they have come on by leaps and bounds.

"Games like this prove we can perform on the big stage but we need to do that against teams at the bottom as well. If we continue to play like that there is no reason why we can't climb the league and collect a lot more points over the rest of the season."
