Staines 3 - 1 Brentford

Starting badly is obviously the key to a good season as for the third year running Brentford were defeated by Staines Town in their first pre season friendly.

Leroy Rosenior's start as manager may have got off to a disasterous start as a ragged and mishapen Brentford side went down three one to non League opponents in the aftermatch of Martin Allen and playoff defeat to Swansea.

A goal from Alex Rhodes, who started on the left wing, was a positive for Brentford's new coach but the way in which his team conceeded and seemingly collapsed will be slightly worrying to the new man in charge at Griffin Park.

"The result isnt important and the fans shouldn't be concerned with that," said Rosenior after the game.

"There were good performances from some trialists and some young kids and that is what I will be taking out of the game. So far we're just assesing fitness and ability, the serious stuff is yet to come."
