Terry Butcher's Post Match Analysis

Bees boss happy with 2-0 win at Chester.

Speaking to the Official website following the game
Manager Terry Butcher said he was delighted with his team's
second-half performance.
Terry Butcher: 'Delighted'

"Chester had some very good chances in the first half and
we're very disappointed at that. But I'm delighted they didn't
take those chances.

"We had to tighten up and step it up in the second half and we
did just that. In the end getting the goals at those times
helped us, especially getting the second one right at the end.

"We changed it around today. We gave some people an
opportunity and I thought they gelled very well.

"Matt Heywood got a knock on his knee on Tuesday and was
having x-rays today. John Mackie came straight back in despite
doing very little training but we said 'do you fancy playing'
and he said yes. He led by example today - I even gave him one
of the headbands I used to wear!

"In the end it wasn't as controlled as we would have liked,
but we were just delighted to get three points. I think
Chester would feel that they could and should have got
something from the game.

"We just need to keep it going now. We'd like to play every
game away from home because on our travels we do pretty well.
Once you get all the boys together it's good.

"Half-time was a bit loud and one or two got the sharp end of
my tongue. But I think the whole team knew that they were
pretty sloppy in the first half. They had to step up in the
second half which I think they did and we started to pass the
ball around well.

"It's good when you've got a little sub like Charlie Ide to
come on because he's got a point to prove and can use his pace
well. His awareness is pretty good as well.
Ide: 'Pacy'

"There's now good competition for places. And that system of play was a little different to what normally do, but within that framework
we can adapt as well.

"We felt that we needed some experience in the team and when you lose Matt Heywood,
it's good that you've got John Mackie
to come in. But Simon Brown is a very dependable goalkeeper and it's good to
have two good keepers battling for the number one position. Simon got his chance today and he took it very well".

"His experience as a talker is what helps too. Ben has been
fantastic and wants to get back in there and it was very hard
to leave him out. It was hard to leave other players out too,
but we felt we had to make some changes and put down a
challenge to those who stayed in the team and also those who
came into it.
Brown: 'Dependable'

"It's nice to hopefully have everybody available over the coming weeks
because we've got three games coming up that could really male a difference.
If we get points from those games it
will really keep us up there.

"Grant Basey got a nick on the calf last week. He got an infection in that
and it came up pretty big. There was no
chance he could play. John Mousinho tweaked his thigh muscle and wasn't
available either.

"Darius Charles looked pretty cool and he's got good pace. He's a good
defender. I don't think even he thought at the start of last week that he would
be up here and playing in a winning
team as well. He doesn't really like left back but he's just happy to be in the
team and I thought he did a great
job there."
