Thomas Frank compares Harry Kane and Ivan Toney

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has compared the differing styles of Ivan Toney and Tottenham talisman Harry Kane.

Despite excelling with England in the autumn, Kane has struggled in the Premier League so far this season, registering just one goal - which came against basement club Newcastle United.

Toney has impressed following Brentford's promotion to the top flight, and while he's scored four goals this year, only two have come from open play. Nevertheless, his all-round game has stood out.

Ahead of Brentford's visit to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday, Frank compared his star striker to that of Antonio Conte's.

"I think Ivan is a fantastic player and I think he’s on his own journey to be the best possible version of himself. I think he’s growing every single day, I’m very pleased with the way he’s played," he told a press conference.

"I think they're two top goal scorers. Of course Harry Kane has proven himself a bit more. I think he’s the leading goal scorer for England or is close to being it? He will be that in the future.

"[Kane is] a world class striker. I think both of them are very good finishers in terms of they are technically very good at finishing, and they are very composed and take good decisions. I think that’s the key to being a top scorer.

"On top of that, both of them are very good in link up play. Harry Kane is dropping deeper and deeper and setting players up, you can see that throughout the season with Ivan as well."

While Kane has years of top-level experience behind him, Frank insisted there was one area in which Toney is superior.

"Two very good players but one thing I think Ivan is better at is penalties," he insisted.
