Brentford head coach Thomas Frank does not believe that footballing legend Ronaldo came close to buying the club, despite the former striker's assertions.
Ronaldo, who became the majority owner of La Liga side Real Valladolid in 2018 and his first ever club Cruzeiro in 2021, revealed in an interview with Good Morning Britain last week that he 'came close to buying Brentford', but a deal could not be agreed with current chief Matthew Benham.
When asked if he could imagine what life would have been like with Ronaldo as his boss, Frank replied: "Interesting!
"I don't know him as a person, it's not for me to judge if he's a good football [club] owner or not. What I know is Matthew is one of the best, as I've said many times. I'd prefer to stick with Matthew."
The potential takeover is believed to have discussed on the table in 2017, at which point Frank was serving as assistant head coach to Dean Smith.
However, the Dane revealed he was unaware of such a proposition at the time and so does not believe a deal was ever close for Ronaldo to buy Brentford.
"I didn't know anything about it. I don't know, but I don't think it was close at all. Maybe there was contact, a meeting, or maybe just a thought about it from Ronaldo. But that's it," Frank added.
"I've heard a lot of stories, and what was it, five years ago? I was here, and I'd never heard that before."
