And they proved there point – in fact they earned 3 points in an excellent advertisement for 2nd Division football.

Brentford started the game brightly and Paul Evans, Brentfords captain tested Martin Taylor when his excellent free kick was pushed wide by Taylor for a corner in the 6th minute. From the resulting corner by Evans, was flicked on by Big Ben Burgess to Ivar Ingimarsson at the back post who volleyed home through the desperate attempts of the Chairboys defence.

The Bees continued to look like they could score in every attack. And they nearly did so in an attack in the 24th minute. The ball fell to Lloyd Owusu whose shot was cleared off the line – Big Ben had a go too, before it fell to Martin Rowlands who effort was hacked away.

The rest of the half was dominated by Wycombe but they could not turn possession into goals. Smith was not required when Wycombe efforts went wide of the target from a long-range shot by Michael Simpson's and a Mark Rogers header.

Brentford again dominated the early stages of the second period. Sidwell then Hunt were both denied by two brilliant saves by in the 49th and 58 minutes, respectively. Rowlands also drove into the side netting from a corner – surely the all-important 2nd goal would come?

It didn’t and Wycombe almost made the Bees pay when they dominated the last 20 minutes. Sean Devine went closes with a shot on the turn from 15 yards that went just wide and a header from a corner that went just over very late on. Andy Rammell missed some half decent chances when his headers went wide of the goal.

So 5 consecutive clean sheets – if they can double that to 10 then promotion maybe on the cards.
