Doncaster fought out a frustrating goalless draw despite dominating the first half against the promotion-chasing visitors.

Rovers outplayed Brentford for long periods but failed to make the most of their chances with Ross McCormack setting the pattern when he struck an angled shot just wide in the third minute.

Doncaster had to reshuffle after losing centre-back Nick Fenton with a suspected broken leg in the 13th minute.

It caused a reshuffle with Kevin Horlock switching from midfield to operate as a makeshift defender.

But it didn't disrupt Rovers' rhythm and Horlock went on to have an outstanding game at centre-back.

Doncaster continued to dictate the pace and they had a chance in the ninth minute when James Coppinger crossed from the left but McCormack just took it off the head of Jason Price who was racing in at the far post.

Coppinger had a shot blocked in the 21st minute after McCormack had robbed Michael Turner of possession to set up the chance.

Little was seen of the Brentford attack at this stage but they defended resolutely and rode their luck as well at times.

McCormack fired narrowly wide in the 21st minute and then substitute Ricky Ravenhill had a 20 yarder saved at full stretch.

The ball would just not go in for Doncaster and Price had a shot deflected off the line after Coppinger had seen an effort parried by keeper Stuart Nelson.

Doncaster should have had something to show for their first-half efforts but McCormack produced a poor finish when well placed in the 43rd minute and then Price hit the post with the goal at his mercy.

Brentford came into the game more after the interval with Lloyd Owusu having a good effort saved and then firing wide from a difficult angle a minute later.

The end-to-end action continued to the closing stages but neither side was able to break the deadlock.

Paul Green had a cracking 20 yarder well saved by Nelson in the 81st minute before Brentford almost snatched victory in injury time.

Rovers keeper Jan Budtz came to the rescue with a brilliant double save, parrying a tremendous header from Eddie Hutchinson before recovering to save the midfielder's follow up shot.
