Pawel Abbott grabbed his 12th goal of the season as his 71st minute effort flew in off the crossbar to stop Huddersfield slipping to another home defeat.

Town looked to be heading for their fourth reversal at the Galpharm Stadium this season when striker Abbott controlled Danny Schofield's by-line cross and then cracked a rising 12-yard drive past Brentford keeper Stuart Nelson.

It was just reward for Poland Under-21 striker Abbott - who was denied a potential contender for goal of the season by the crossbar in the first half.

Abbott latched on to Tony Carss' pass down the left on 16 minutes, flicked the ball up over his shoulder and past bamboozled Bees defender Michael Turner before letting rip from just inside the box.

Nelson had no chance of stopping the powerful effort but sadly for Abbott, the ball smacked off the crossbar and bounced down before the relieved Turner cleared.

Town dominated most of the first half but it was the visitors who had perhaps the best chance on the break in the 35th minute thanks to Stuart Talbot's long punt forward.

Huddersfield's defence tried to play offside but the trap failed - with the former Crystal Palace ace John Salako and ex-Derby County hitman Deon Burton in the clear with only keeper Paul Rachubka to beat.

Salako took the ball on and fired goalwards, but Rachubka, making his debut on loan from Charlton as cover for injured stopper Ian Gray, pulled off a fine save with his legs.

The second half was a different story with Brentford totally dominating and winning a series of corners as they piled on the pressure looking for their second away win of the season.

And it was from a 62nd minute Salako corner that the visitors grabbed the lead.

Substitute Jamie Lawrence's near-post flick caused chaos with defender Sam Sodje eventually tapping in from close range after a brief goalmouth scramble.

Sodje is the younger brother of disgraced former Huddersfield captain Efe - who was stripped of the skipper's armband by manager Peter Jackson last week following his sending off at Blackpool in the LDV Vans Trophy clash.

And it looked like Sodje's younger brother had sealed victory for Brentford until Abbott expertly controlled Schofield's cross 19 minutes from time before beating Nelson and grabbing a share of the spoils.
