Bees sting Dons

Brentford survived a late scare to beat MK Dons 2-1 and maintain their slim hopes of snatching a play-off place.

First-half goals from the in-form Clayton Donaldson and Jonathan Douglas ultimately handed the Bees their third straight victory in an ill-tempered clash at stadium:mk.

But they had to ride their luck late on as substitute Jabo Ibehre hit the post for the Dons at the death after Shaun Williams' 88th-minute penalty had made it 2-1.

Brentford keeper Richard Lee produced three good saves in the first seven minutes to keep out fierce long-range shots from Stephen Gleeson, Charlie MacDonald and Jay O'Shea.

But Donaldson put the Bees ahead from a quick counter-attack after 12 minutes, skinning defender Tom Flanagan to fire a fine finish into the roof of the net from a tight angle for his fourth goal in three games.

Douglas doubled Brentford's lead soon afterwards when he stroked a brilliant first-time strike into the top corner past David Martin from Shaleum Logan's cutback.

Logan almost made it 3-0 after the break when he was denied one-on-one by the legs of Martin. But Williams coolly converted his spot-kick after Karleigh Osborne had bundled over MacDonald in the box, before Ibehre blasted against the post in the 90th minute as the Dons slipped to their second successive defeat.
